In
2003,
Walt
Disney
Home
Entertainment
released
The
Lion
King
Special
Edition
DVD
in
the
Netherlands,
produced
by
Walt
Disney
Pictures.
It
was
a
major
success,
with
over
250,000
copies
sold
shortly
after
launch,
making
it
one
of
the
best-selling
DVDs
in
Dutch
history.
Fans
were
excited
to
see
the
digitally
restored
classic
with
new
bonus
features
and
the
added
musical
scene
"Morning
Report."
However,
the
release
was
marred
by
a
technical
issue:
the
Dutch
subtitles
were
missing
or
incorrect
during
the
main
feature.
This
caused
frustration
among
families
and
viewers
who
relied
on
subtitles.
Complaints
quickly
spread
through
the
media,
and
retailers
faced
many
returns.
In
response,
Disney
admitted
to
a
manufacturing
error
and
launched
a
replacement
program
to
fix
the
issue.
Despite
this
setback,
the
DVD's
popularity
showed
the
lasting
power
of
The
Lion
King,
and
the
problem
served
as
a
lesson
in
quality
control
for
home
entertainment
releases.
