In
1986,
McDonald’s
introduced
its
first
child-focused
meal
in
the
Netherlands:
the
UFO
Box.
Shaped
like
a
flying
saucer,
the
UFO
Box
included
a
hamburger,
fries,
a
soft
drink,
and
a
toy,
all
packaged
in
a
colorful,
reusable
plastic
container.
The
promotion
featured
four
different
UFOs
in
bright
colors,
released
over
several
weeks,
each
accompanied
by
stickers
to
personalize
the
box.
Marketed
under
the
playful
slogan
“Bliep,
bliep”,
the
campaign
ran
until
May
24,
1986.
The
UFO
Box
combined
food,
fun,
and
collectability
and
is
considered
the
first
Happy
Meal
in
the
Netherlands.
